About soxblock.org

soxblock.org

soxblock.org is your neighbors — the folks you meet every day that make this a very special place. The association organizes the spring planting, the stoop sale, the clean-ups, and the annual block party. It is an all-volunteer effort, run by the people who live here, for the people who live here.

What is on this calendar

The soxblock.org website is where all the events live. Everything on this page is open to neighbors.

Sign in to RSVP, pick the hours you're available to help, and optionally get it added to your calendar.

Volunteering, start to finish

Sign in to volunteer at one of the events. It goes in three steps, and you can stop after any of them:

  1. Say "I'll help here". RSVP to a date — or to a whole recurring series at once — so the organizers know roughly how many hands to plan around.
  2. Pick the hours you're available to help. Each event is broken into stations — the grill, the plant beds, the welcome table — and each one says what it needs and when. Claim the window you can genuinely make, not the whole day, and bring an item off the list if a station is asking for one.
  3. Get your shift on your own calendar. Once you have claimed a shift, soxblock.org prepares a calendar invitation for the address you signed in with. We send an invite to your calendar once you have confirmed the email address those invitations come from; one email, and the section below explains it, so the time is blocked out where you already look. You can control calendar delivery on your settings page.

Change your mind and nothing is stuck: a shift can be handed back, an RSVP withdrawn, and the calendar invitation goes away with it.

Where the calendar invitations come from

The invitations are generated and sent by the association's own address, [email protected]. We do not send you an invitation until you have written to us — until then, there is nothing on your calendar and nothing in your junk mail to find.

So we write to you once, the first time you sign in, and ask for one thing: reply to that email. The reply can say anything at all — its subject and contents do not matter, and nobody reads it. That one reply is what lets us start sending your invitations.

Any email from your own address to that address works just as well — it does not have to be a reply to the one we sent.
